Joseph Bellows Gallery is pleased to present an exhibition of landscape photographs by Paul Kozal.
Paul Kozal photographs the landscape of California and the American Southwest. His sepia and selenium toned prints evoke the warmth and quietude often found in nature. Working within the context of traditional landscape photography, Kozal offers fresh views of this classic subject matter. His images reveal the beauty as well as the mystery within each landscape he photographs. His landscapes seem exotic and strange, yet close and familiar.
The artist has said, "Each of us, at some time, has encountered a person or place that at once disarms our senses, seemingly transcending reality. The moment takes root within our consciousness, and its indelible impression forever alters our perspective. Capturing the essence of that moment and embodying it in a photographic image is my primary desire."
Kozal, a self-taught photographer, was born and raised in Chicago. He now resides in Sea Ranch, California.
Joseph Bellows Gallery will feature the work of Paul Kozal from September 1st - September 30th, 2006. There will be an opening reception with the artist September 1st, from 6 -8 pm.
