Walt Odets| American, 1947 -

 

Born in Los Angeles, Walt Odets began photographing at the age of 16. Odets received a B.A. in philosophy from Wesleyan University and a M.A. and PH.D in clinical psychology from San Francisco’s Professional School of Psychology. He has taught photography at Wesleyan University and the San Francisco Art Institute.

Odets’ perceptive photographs of the American social landscape have been featured in numerous exhibitions and in 2007 he was awarded the James D. Phelan Award in Photography.

His photographs are in the permanent collections of the Library of Congress, the Oakland Museum, the Brooklyn Museum, the New Orleans Museum of Art, Yale University and the Stanford University Museum of Art.

He has published six volumes of photographs; Reconnaissance (1971), Other Evidence (1979), Illogical Possibilities (1983), Things People Have (2010), Fifty Seven American People (2010) and Dividing Space (2010).
