Nicholas G. Merrick | American, 1954 -
Nick Merrick received a BFA in 1976 from the University of Michigan, and an MFA in 1980 from The School of The Art Institute Chicago. In 1977, he started as an assistant at the renowned architectural photography firm Hedrich Blessing. He became a photographer there in 1979 and went on to become the first non-family full partner in 1984. Merrick's photographs have been exhibited at the George Eastman Museum, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Chicago History Museum. His work is within numerous collections including the Museum of Contemporary Photography at Columbia College, Chicago Historical Society, and the Art Institute of Chicago.
Merrick's work appears regularly in architectural and design journals worldwide, including A+U, Architectural Record, Architecture Magazine, Interior Design, Contract, and Graphis. His work is also featured prominently in books and monographs on Perkins + Will; Curtis Worth Fentress; Zimmer Gunsul Frasca; Krueck+Sexton and Skidmore, and Owings & Merrill. He has taught a celebrated workshop since 1993 at the Santa Fe Workshops.
