John Banasiak | American, 1950 -
John Banasiak studied at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago where he earned both his Masters of Fine Arts and his Bachelor of Fine Arts. From 1971-1981 Banasiak photographed Chicago and surrounding areas at night. During that time, Banasiak would wander around the city at night, looking for quiet scenes he describes as "stage sets just waiting for the players to arrive." His night work consists of both black and white and color photographs of intimate, dream-like scenes of the city sleeping.
His photographs are in the permanent collections of the Walker Art Center, the Tweed Museum of Art, the Kansas City Art Museum, the International Center of Photography, Light Work, and the South Dakota Art Museum.
Banasiak currently teaches photography at the University of South Dakota.
